Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme
The government's sovereign gold bond scheme for 2018-19 opens for subscription.
The government has fixed the rate at Rs 3,146 for a gram of gold. The sovereign gold bonds for this series will be launched in five tranches each month from October to February 2019.
The first tranche will remain open till October 19, while the bonds will be issued on October 23. The bonds would be sold through banks, Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited, designated post offices, and stock exchanges -- National Stock Exchange and BSE.
Prof. M S Swaminathan presented 1st World Agriculture Prize
Prof. MS Swaminathan, chief architect of India’s Green Revolution was awarded the World Agriculture Prize for this year. Professor MS Swaminathan, the agriculturist and environmentalist who spearheaded the green revolution movement in India.
The Award was presented by Vice President Naidu at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi at a special session, named “Swaminathan Global Dialogue on Climate Change and Food Security” organised by Indian Council of food and Agriculture (ICFA).
World Agriculture Prize has been instituted by Indian Council of Food and Agriculture with the vision to recognize the individuals, who have served the humanity through agriculture. He added that with the launch of this prize, India will catch the attention and imagination of the world especially the developing countries, which will look up to India for leadership towards finding solution to their food and agriculture security and environmental sustainability.
PM Modi won Seoul Peace Prize
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with the Seoul Peace Prize for 2018 for his contribution to international cooperation and fostering global economic growth. 
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday that PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the prestigious honour and in the light of India' deepening partnership with the Republic of Korea, he has accepted the award.
"The world acknowledges. PM Narendra Modi awarded prestigious Seoul Peace Prize 2018 for contribution to high economic growth in India and world through 'Modinomics', contribution to world peace, improving human development & furthering democracy in India," MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved upgradation of 17 Dornier Aircraft of the Indian Coast Guard
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC)  approved upgradation of 17 Dornier Aircraft of the Indian Coast Guard at a cost of nearly Rs 950 crore. The upgradation will be carried out by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The council chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi also approved equipping of three aircraft with Pollution Surveillance Systems.

(1) The Seoul Peace Prize Committee on October 24, 2018 conferred the 2018 Seoul Peace Prize on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Committee recognised Modi's contributions to the growth of the Indian and global economies, crediting 'Modinomics' for reducing social and economic disparity between the rich and the poor.
(2) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on September 26, 2018 awarded with the prestigious UN Champions of the Earth Award 2018, the highest environmental honour of the United Nations. Modi received the award on October 3, 2018 by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
(3) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on February 10, 2018 conferred with the 'Grand Collar of the State of Palestine' by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, recognising his contributions in promoting relations between India and Palestine.
(4) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his brief visit to Afghanistan, was on June 4, 2016 conferred with the Amir Amanullah Khan Award, the highest civilian honour of Afghanistan.  He was awarded the honour by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani following the inauguration of the landmark Afghan-India Friendship Dam.
(5) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on April 3, 2016 conferred with the Saudi Arabia's highest civilian honour ‘King Abdulaziz Sash’ by King Salman bin Abdulaziz at the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia.
