Gujarat’s Sprint to 2022, a First-of-Its-Kind Exclusive Event to Showcase Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Vision and Gujarat’s Transformation by 2022 & Beyond

As part of the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019, the Government of Gujarat is organizing Gujarat’s Sprint to 2022, a first-of-its-kind, exclusive event aimed at showcasing Hon’ble Chief Minister’s vision for advancing Gujarat’s position beyond the premier investment destination it is known to be. The objective of this event is to showcase the potential of the state as the perfect destination for an ideal life with its well developed physical and social infrastructure, political stability, holistic educational, medical facilities, opportunities for employment and robust connectivity.

Besides showcasing Gujarat’s transformation through futuristic physical and social infrastructure by the year 2022, the event will highlight Gujarat’s caliber at providing a higher quality of life to its citizens and to those who have migrated into it for work or higher education. The state has progressed tremendously in terms of establishing world class infrastructure, taking a well-rounded approach in instituting essential amenities and is now progressing rapidly towards attaining energy prowess through its initiatives in the renewable energy sector, which reiterates its superiority in providing quality life to its citizens.

The event will be organized on 19th January, 2019 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat (India). It will provide a sneak peek into the investment opportunities opening up in Gujarat and provide an opportunity to delegates to meet global corporate leaders and strategy makers for jointly investing in Gujarat.

The 2-hour event will kick off with an inaugural session on Discovering Gujarat, which will be conducted by the Chief Secretary of Gujarat - Dr. JN Singh. The session will focus on rediscovering Gujarat’s history, industrial transformation & landmark achievements. The following session will showcase mega infrastructure and urban projects and their status by 2022. Some of the key projects that will be included in the seminar are:

·        Dholera SIR and the world’s largest Solar Park (5 GW) is now being developed at Dholera SIR

The third session of the event will focus on ‘Strong Foundations’ that Gujarat is built on and will essentially showcase the state of social infrastructure that are expected to be completed by 2022. The session will also include talks by young entrepreneurs from across the country on their ventures in different sectors including health, education, urban development etc.
The event will culminate with a keynote address by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani. Shri Rupani will present the blueprint of Sprint 2022 by underscoring the key aspects of Gujarat - its world class infrastructure, the peaceful quality of life, its mission to strive for inclusive growth and a drive towards future innovations. Major announcements and launch of flagship schemes are expected to be made at the event.

Besides Hon’ble Chief Minister Sh. Vijay Rupani and Dr. J.N. Singh, Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat; Sh. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog; Sh. Manoj Kumar Das, Principal Secretary to CM; Sh. Keshav Varma, SRFDCL and Sh. Kulin Lalbhai, Executive Director, Arvind Limited have confirmed their presence at the event.

The State Government has formulated a team to oversee preparations for the event and will comprise Sh. T Natarajan, Managing Director (GSPC) and Sh. Ashwini Kumar, Secretary to CM.

PM releases commemorative coin in honour of Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today released a commemorative coin in honour of former Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Speaking on the occasion, he said that our minds are not ready to believe that Shri Vajpayee is no longer with us. He was a stalwart loved and respected across all sections of society, he added. 
He said that over decades, Shri Vajpayee's voice remained the voice of the people. As a speaker, he was unparalleled. He is among the best orators our nation has produced, the Prime Minister added. 
Shri Narendra Modi said that a long part of Shri Vajpayee's career was spent in the opposition benches, but he always spoke about national interest. The Prime Minister said that Shri Vajpayee wanted democracy to be supreme. He expressed confidence that Shri Vajpayee will continue to be an inspiration for all of us. 
India's longest rail-cum-road Bogibeel Bridge
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India's longest rail-cum-road Bogibeel Bridge on the Brahmaputra in Assam today. He will also flag off the first passenger train over the bridge. The 4.9 kilometre-long bridge has a two-line railway track on the lower deck and a three-lane road on the top deck.
The Bridge is situated 17 km downstream of Dibrugarh city. It is constructed at an estimated cost of around 5,900 crore rupees and has a serviceable period of around 120 years. Our correspondent reports that the rail link connects two existing railway networks running at the south and north banks of the river.
 
"Bogibeel bridge, Asia's second largest rail-cum-road bridge will be opened to traffic today. This bridge will be the lifeline of the north eastern part of the country and will facilitate connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. It will save a lot of time both in terms of road and rail travel. It will also reduce Delhi to Dibrugarh train-travel time by about three hours to 34 hours as against  the present 37 hours. The bridge will enhance the national security of the eastern region by facilitating swift movement of defence forces and their equipment. Talking to AIR, Chief Engineer of the project, Mohinder Singh said, the bridge is India's only fully welded bridge and 80 thousand tonnes of steel plates have been used.

Good Governance Day
The birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be celebrated as Good Governance Day today. His Samadhi, Sadaiv Atall will be also be dedicated to the Nation today.

Emphasizing Unity in Diversity, stones from various parts of country have been used in the construction of Samadhi near Rajghat in New Delhi. Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said in a release, the central Samadhi platform comprises of nine square blocks, capped with a Diya in the center.

The number nine holds significance and represents the navarasas, navaratras and navagrahas. The placement of the nine square Samadhi is in a circular lotus shaped pattern. Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday released a commemorative coin in honour of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi.
Gujarat CMVijay Rupani to distribute 10,000 contract letters in Surat, three Ministers inother districts, on December 27

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will distribute nearly 10,000 contract letters under MukhyaMantriAprrentice Yojna and under other schemes under Labour & Employment Department at a function in Surat on December 27, 2018.

Three Ministers will distribute such letters in as manydistricts the same day, like Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma will be in Panchmahals, Energy Minister Saurabhbhai Patel in Patan, and Forest & Tribal Welfare Minister Ganpatbhai Vasava in Anand.

Nearly 10,000 job opportunities have been created in these four districts under various employment schemes.

Ahmedabad, Tuesday:Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupanitoday inaugurated Kankaria Carnival on the bank of Kankaria Lake here with added attractions like AC coaches in toy train, battery operated cars, jet sking, sports bike, riders, floating restaurant and e-swachch dust bins. He also flagged off tourists’ hop-on-hop-off bus.

It coincided with Mr. Rupani’s completion one year of good governance as Chief Minister, as well as the former later Prime Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary, being celebrated as National Good Governance Day.

Speaking on the occasion, he expressed happiness at Kankaria Carnival emerging as a tourist attraction, with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation providing entertainment to the poor, after fulfilling its duty of providing street light, water and gutter.

He said that Gujarat is on the forefront of development – be it infrastructure in agriculture or education, health or entertainment. It began with Chief Minister Narendra Modi initiating good governance.

Ahmedabad Mayor Bijalben Patel listed Ahmedabad city’s latest initiative in traffic movements, etc. its selection as India’s only world heritage city.

Those present on the occasion included Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel, BJP leader I.K. Jadeja, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra, Chairmen of various Municipal Committees and Corporators.

Rafi Award conferred to late music composer Laxmikant and singer Usha Timothy

The Mohammed Rafi Award has been bestowed upon late music composer Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar and playback singer Usha Timothy. The award was instituted by an NGO headed by Mumbai BJP Chief Ashish Shelar.

Kudalkar, of the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo, was given the Mohammed Rafi Lifetime Achievement Award consisting of 1 lakh rupees and a trophy. The award was received by his daughter.

Timothy was honoured with the award and 51,000 rupees at a programme held in suburban Bandra.


Government reviews guidelines for FDI in E- commerce

Government has reviewed guidelines for Foreign Direct Investment in E- commerce companies to protect the interests of domestic players. It has taken host of steps and barred e-commerce companies from selling products of the companies in which they have stake. In a statement, the Commerce and Industry Ministry said, it has also prohibited e-commerce companies from entering into an agreement for exclusive sale of products.

Cash back provided to buyers by group companies of marketplace entity shall be fair and non-discriminatory. The Ministry said, E-commerce entities providing marketplace will not directly or indirectly influence the sale price of goods or services and shall maintain level playing field. These decision will come into effect from 1st of February, 2019.

The decision comes in the backdrop of several complaints being flagged by domestic traders on heavy discounts being given by e-commerce players to consumers. Traders have welcomed the government's move to tighten norms for sale of products by e-commerce firms. 

Bhutan PM Dr. Lotay Tshering to arrive in New Delhi

Prime Minister of Bhutan Dr. Lotay Tshering will arrive in New Delhi today on a three day official visit to India. The visit takes place during the Golden jubilee year of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. Foreign Secretary Vijay K Gokhale will call on the visiting dignitary today. Dr Tshering will be accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow.

He will also pay homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister of Bhutan will call on President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu and Power Minister R K Singh are scheduled to call on the visiting dignitary.

NITI Aayog to release Second Delta Ranking of the Aspirational Districts Programme today

NITI Aayog will today release the Second Delta Ranking of the Aspirational Districts Programme. CEO, Amitabh Kant will release the ranking which will measure the incremental progress made by districts between 1st June and 31st October this year.

The districts have been ranked in a transparent basis on parameters across various performance indicators like Health and Nutrition, Education, Skill Development and Basic Infrastructure among others.

The rankings are based on the data that is publicly available through the Champions of Change Dashboard, which includes data entered on a real-time basis at the district level. For the first time, the rankings will also factor in inputs from household survey conducted by NITI Aayog’s knowledge partners, namely, TATA Trusts and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Aspirational District Programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January this year with the aim to rapidly transform the districts that have shown relatively lesser progress in key social areas. The first Delta ranking for the Aspirational Districts was released in June this year.
