Kandhamal Haldi get GI tag
Odisha’s Kandhamal Haldi (turmeric) receiving GI tag, famous for its healing properties. Geographical Indications Journal has advertised its application seeking objections.Kandhamal Apex Spices Association for Marketing, based at the district headquarter town of Phulbani, had moved for registration ‘Kandhamal Haldi’ which was accepted under sub-section (1) of Section 13 of the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.
Turmeric is the main cash crop of tribal people in Kandhamal. Apart from domestic use, turmeric is also used for cosmetic and medicinal purposes.
Preeti Saran elected to UN’s Socio-Economic Cultural panel
Former  Indian diplomat, Preeti Saran, has been elected unopposed to an Asia Pacific seat on the UN’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR).Saran was elected to the CESCR for a four-year term beginning on the 1st of January next year.
President Kovind Myanmar visit
President Ram Nath Kovind will be on a 5-day visit to Myanmar . During the visit, Mr Kovind will visit Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon, and to interact with President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.Mr Kovind will be accorded ceremonial reception and will hold delegation level talks with his Myanmar counterpart.
He said, India’s relations with Myanmar is growing day by day and New Delhi will like to see improved trade relations with Nay Pyi Taw.
Sahitya Academy awards 2018
Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Awards in 24 languages. Seven books of poetry, six novels, six short stories, three of literary criticism and two of essays have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards, 2018.
Those who have won the award for their collection of poetry include Sananta Tanti in Assamese, Paresh Narendra Kamat in Konkani, S Ramesan Nair in Malayalam and Dr Rama Kant Shukla in Sanskrit.

Writers who won the awards for short stories include Sanjib Chattopadhyay in Bengali, Mushtaq Ahmed Mushtaq in Kashmiri and Prof Bina Thakur in Maithili. Inderjeet Kesar in Dogri, Anees Salim in English, Chitra Mudgal in Hindi are among the awardees in the novel category. 
The Akademi said in a press release that the awards will be presented at a roadshow function to be held on 29th January next year at New Delhi during the Festival of Letters to the organised by Sahitya Akademi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the most popular global leader on social media platform Instagram with 14.8 million followers. According to a list published by online platform twiplomacy, Mr Modi is closely followed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo with 12.2 million followers. With 10 million followers, US President Donald Trump is at the third position on photo-sharing platform.

12th session of India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj co-chair the 12th session of the India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting for Economic and Technical Cooperation with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.Along with the Foreign Minister of the UAE, Mrs Swaraj will also inaugurate a Gandhi-Zayed Digital Museum in Abu Dhabi to mark the celebrations of 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth and centenary celebrations of the birth of Shaikh Zayed, founder of the modern UAE. She is also scheduled to interact with the Indian community in Abu Dhabi. 


Pawan Singh elected in ISSF’s judges committee
Pawan Singh has become the first Indian to be elected one of seven member’s of the Judges Committee of the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF). Mr Singh also holds the post of the Joint Secretary General of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

A few days back Raninder Singh, President of NRAI had become the first Indian to be elected Vice President of ISSF.

National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems
Cabinet approved launch of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems. its total outlay of 3660 crore rupees, 15 Technology Innovation Hubs, six Application Innovation Hubs and four Technology translation Research Hubs will be set up under the National Mission.


'Train 18' crosses 180 kmph speed limit 
Train 18, breached the 180 kmph speed limit during a test run.  Train 18 is capable of touching 200 kmph provided the rest of Indian Railways' system such as tracks and signals permit. When this indigenously designed train is made operational, it will become country's fastest train. 
With 16 coaches, the train will have the same passenger carrying capacity as that of the Shatabdi Express. It has aerodynamically designed driver cabins at both ends for quicker turn-around at destinations. The train sports an advanced regenerative braking system which saves power. 
The General Manager of Integral Coach Factory expressed hope that  'Train 18' will commence its commercial run from January 2019.
80th Session  of the World Customs Organization
80th Session of the Policy Commission of the World Customs Organization (WCO) was held recently in Mumbai. The Session was organized by the WCO and hosted by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
Qatar leave OPEC
Qatar has announced that it would leave OPEC on January 1, 2019. The decision comes just days before OPEC and its allies are scheduled to hold a meeting in Vienna, Austria. Qatar said it is leaving OPEC in order to focus on gas production.

OPEC is one of the most powerful international organizations in the world and was a major player in the shift towards state control over natural resources.
India’s heaviest and most advanced satellite GSAT-11
India’s heaviest and most advanced satellite GSAT-11 was recently launched from the Guiana Space Centre at Kourou in French Guiana. GSAT-11 is ISRO’s heaviest satellite ever built and weighs about 5854 kilograms. It was launched onboard Ariane-5 launch vehicle from French Guiana. GSAT-11 is part of ISRO’s new family of high-throughput communication satellite (HTS) fleet that will drive the country’s Internet broadband from space to untouched areas. According to ISRO, GSAT-11’s multiple spot beam coverage — 32 in Ku band and eight in Ka bands — will deliver an improved service of 16 gbps over the Indian region and nearby islands.
 ExseedSAT 1  launched by Space X
Exseed Space has become the first Indian privately-funded startup to successfully send a satellite into space. ExseedSAT 1 was launched into space by Space X along with 63 other satellites from 17 countries.The mini communication satellite weighing just a kg with double the size of a Rubik’s cube (10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm) is made up of aluminium alloy.
World Intellectual Property Indicators 2018 report released
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Released World Intellectual Property Indicators 2018 report. China’s patent authority led the world in the number of patents granted with 420,144 and was followed by the US with 318,829, according to the WIPO.The number of patents granted by India shot up by 50% in 2017, keeping up a trend of steep increases. The patents granted by India increased from 8,248 in 2016 to 12,387 last year.
Agriculture Export Policy, 2018
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister has approved the Agriculture Export Policy, 2018. The Cabinet has also approved the proposal for establishment of Monitoring Framework at Centre with Commerce as the nodal Department with representation from various line Ministries/Departments and Agencies and representatives of concerned State Governments, to oversee the implementation of Agriculture Export Policy.
11 Town Planning Schemes for Rapid Development of Urban Areas

Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani  with the aim of making rapid development of urban areas more planned and accelerating, approved 11 Town Planning Schemes including 8 Draft TP of Ahmedabad today.  With the approval of these Draft scheme the rapid implementation of roads along with infrastructure facilities will be increased, in respective areas.
It is worth to note that Mr. Rupani also holds the charge of Urban Development Department. In last 9 months, in the city of Ahmedabad, more than 28,000 draft schemes were approved in more than 3,000 hectare area. Due to the 8 Draft TP approved by the Chief Minister, the well planned development of 1000 hectares of land will be made possible. Estimate works of Rs. 1450 crores has been decided in 8 TP schemes.
The roads of 18 meters or more have been planned in the TP scheme. The city will have benefit of overall 60 KM road. The 11 schemes which have been approved by Mr. Rupani include AUDA's Draft TP. Scheme (1) 10 / B (Kaneti) (2) 419 (Asalali) (3) 415 (Kathvada) (4) 517 (Kanabh-Kujad) (5) 91 (Sanaathal-Telawa) (6) 8 (Dhanaj-Palasana-saij) (7) 10 (Borisana-Kalol-Ola-Pratappura) (8) 401 / A (Barakol-Badrabad-Kamod) and (9) Preliminary TP. Scheme no. 84 / B (including Makarba) (10) Rajkot Final TP Scheme no. 17 (Munjka) and (11) GUDA TP Scheme no. 8 (Sargasan) is included.
Mr. Rupani also urged the Town Planning Officers to finalize all these draft schemes.
Lion enclosure and Souvenir shop at Indroda Nature Park
Gujarat Minister of Tribal Development, Tourism, Forest and Women and Child Welfare Mr. Ganpatbhai Vasava will Inaugurate and Dedicate the Lion enclosure and Souvenir shop at Indroda Nature Park (GEER Foundation) on 27th November 2018, Tuesday at 12 pm in the presence of Minister of State for Forest and Tribal Development Mr. Ramanlal Patkar, Forest and Environment Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Head of Forest force & Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Wildlife, Gujarat State.
One more feature of cap to the capital city of Gujarat- Gandhinagar, A pair of Asiatic Lions named Sutra (M- 10years) and Greeva (F- 8years) have been made available for the visitors at Indroda Nature Park at GEER Foundation. There are 39 species of wild animals including mammals, reptiles and bird species in the zoo managed by GEER Foundation an organization by Forest and Environment Department.
